Ruaha National Park
About Ruaha National Park
Tanzania's largest national park — wild, remote, and superbly diverse.
Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s largest national park and one of East Africa’s most spectacular hidden safari treasures. Remote and untamed, the park is known for its dramatic scenery, enormous elephant populations, and extraordinary predator activity.
The Great Ruaha River forms the lifeline of the park, attracting wildlife throughout the dry season. Along its sandy riverbanks, visitors regularly encounter elephants digging for water, lions resting beneath baobab trees, and crocodiles waiting silently in shallow pools.
Ruaha’s landscapes are strikingly diverse. Massive baobab trees tower over rolling hills, rocky escarpments, dry riverbeds, and endless savannahs. The scenery feels raw and ancient, giving the park a powerful wilderness atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Tanzania.
Predator sightings are among the best in Africa. Large prides of lions dominate the ecosystem, while leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and endangered African wild dogs roam freely across the park. The balance between predators and prey creates intense and exciting safari experiences.
Ruaha is also a paradise for bird enthusiasts, hosting more than 570 bird species ranging from colorful bee-eaters to giant eagles and rare migratory birds.
What truly sets Ruaha apart is its isolation and authenticity. Far from crowded tourist routes, the park offers a deeply immersive safari experience where nature feels vast, unpredictable, and completely wild.
